Watching Youtube has become one of my greatest obsessions. From make-up tutorials, to web series and more, I get my life from watching some really amazing people on Youtube. One of those people, is Shannon T. Boodram aka, ShanBoody. While I actually first found Shannon via instagram in 2013, I started following her YT in mid-2014. As a certified sexologist, Shannon's channel sheds light on spicy sex topics that most are too modest to talk about. She's written a book on it, toured it across the country, been featured on so many awesome shows, and cross collab'd with some of your favorites! Shannon's approach is super down-to-earth and real. 100%. It's her realness, that keeps me watching. In addition to talking sex, Shannon brings you into her world, spilling the tea on her real-world struggles and breaking into Hollywood entertainment.
A few months ago, Shannon released a video, "The Truth About My Love Life" - which broke down her entire dating timeline. Seeing her reminisce about her loves was fun to watch, as I recalled some of the loves in my lifetime. Sometimes it makes you smile, thinking about the good things you experienced with a former "bae", but then there are those memories that bring you to tears. Seeing Shannon share those tears with us on camera was hard to watch. I felt for her. I felt for me. I felt for every woman that's had their heart broken by a guy. That video really impacted me, for obvious reasons, and I've just grown to love Shannon's channel so-so much! She's shared so much with her viewers and a lot of what she shares mirrors some of the feelings I've had over the same course of time.
In April, I flew to LA for a random visit, but of course I had my camera in tow. I had a few shoots lined up, but one day while in my hotel, I thought to myself, if you had the opportunity to meet and shoot with some of your favorite women in the digital space, who would it be? I made a list of about five women and gave myself the task of reaching out to each of them.
I ditched a traditional email for an insta-DM (which I felt would be seen faster than an email). I sent my best photography sample and a short proposition on why I enjoyed them and would be honored to have the opportunity to shoot with them! I cannot tell you guys how nervous just DM'n someone made me. I can be such a pessimist, and I thought "I'm not going to get a response, who am I kidding?" Lo-and behold, I got a response from 4 of the 5! Shannon was one of them, and we planned a meet-up for the next day at her Hollywood home for an impromptu shoot!
(SIDE NOTE: THANKS TO THIS SHOOT WITH SHANNON, I RECENTLY GOT AFFIRMATION FROM THE 5TH PERSON, WHICH I'LL GET TO SHOOT THE NEXT TIME I'M IN LA-LA LAND! THANKS. SHANNON! :)
Just writing this, I can't tell you how much fun it was to shoot with Shannon. I was incredibly nervous, but she welcomed me into her home with open arms, and made me feel super at ease. We took some shots in her neighborhood and she even let me borrow her 85mm f/1.2 lens to grab a few shots during this session!
Shannon, you're EPIC girl! Thank you so much for shooting with me! I hope you guys enjoyed this session as much I enjoyed shooting it! Be sure to check this babe out on Youtube and follow her on the GRAM!
P.S. Xo Necole recently did a feature on Shannon, and if you're curious about more of her journey, you can read ithere.
